The OM5027 I2C evaluation board has a DIL40 footprint socket that an emulator could plug into. In this case a PDS51+PDB66x-Rx2 (which is supplied with both the PLCC44 and DIP40 footprint adaptors) would be ideal.
The modular design of the OM5027 allows the CL580 micro to be switched off the I2C and RS232 busses allowing the DIP40 to be switched on. Therefore you would be able to ''talk'' to all the other I2C peripherals or the RS232 driver.
