It plugs onto the PDS900 programmer and allows devices in the S08 surface-mount or DIP8 through-hole-mount packages to be programmed.  Jumpers can be set to configure the adaptor for either the Philips device pinout (for the P89LPC906, 907, or 908 devices) or the alternate pinout provided by Philips (for the P89LPC901, 902, or 903 devices) which allows 8-pin microcontrollers from other manufacturers to be upgraded for existing designs.
